Classes
We offer 20 hours of classes divided into 16 sessions of seventy-five minutes over the course of seven days. You may sleep all morning; classes will start at noon.
The first day of classes will be Monday September 11th and the last day of classes Sunday September 17th 2012.
We will have a day with only one official class on Friday so that you have some time to explore the castle or the nearby valley.
The skill-levels in the Balboa Classes Tracks will be divided into three groups.
NOTE: There are no classes for absolute Balboa beginners.
In order to attend the classes in this camp, you need to know your Balboa and Bal-Swing basics.
We have a special track for teaching, competition and show. All classes will be held in English.
Tracks / Levels
Balboa Classes Track
We will divide this track into three groups according to the experience and skill level of the participants.
The groups will correspond to these levels:
- Intermediate
- Intermediate-Advanced
- Advanced
The cost for the Balboa Classes Track is €259,- for the whole week if you sign up as a single dancer.
Save a total of €50.- by registering with a partner (of the opposite role).
So as a dance couple the price for each of you is €234,-.
Balboa Masters Track (Teaching / Competition / Show)
This track is specifically intended for dancers who are already teaching, competing and performing in Balboa. This track will be less "moves-oriented".
It will focus on teaching methods, competition strategies and performance/choreography design. You will be working with creativity and developing your own style.
If you wish to work on or create your own performance during this week, you are welcome to present it during one of the evening dances.
This track will be limited to twenty participants so that the teachers can give individual feedback. To sign up for this track, you need to get our approval.
Tell us who of the teachers you know and why you believe that this is a track that is suitable for you.
In this track you will be working more with a dedicated partner and there will be less rotation in the classes,
so in order to be in this track you have to pair up with someone.
This can be either your steady dance partner or someone who you just team up with for the camp.
You can request participation on your own.
We will connect people who request to participate without a partner between each other so that you may find a team partner.
The different teachers will be focusing on different themes in this track.
Mickey and Kelly will share their insights from their unrivaled winning streaks and train with you how to better compete.
Jeremy and Laura will use their superb performance skills to focus on the subject of developing a choreography with you.
David and Sanna will try a new kind of compound session(s) where they present an original theme class coupled with a running
commentary/discussion on how and why the class was developed. This format is intended to offer insight for teachers but also
anyone interested in analyzing how we as a scene can identify and introduce tricky or broad thematic subjects for discussion.
Peter and Mia will reveal Balboa secrets that have never been shared before.
You can request your participation in this track until March 29th 2013, by filling out this form.
The cost for the Balboa Masters Track is €309,- for the whole week if you sign up as a single dancer.
Save a total of €50.- by registering with a partner.
So as a dance couple the price for each of you is €284,-.
Level descriptions
You can request which level you would like to dance in in the registration but the teachers will check whether the class level is suitable for you in the auditions.
Intermediate
You know the Balboa and Bal-Swing Basics. You have been social dancing for at least a few months.
You are comfortable with single and double time basics (up-/downhold basic), ad-libs, comearound, lollies, out-and-ins and toss-outs.
Intermediate-Advanced
You have been dancing Balboa on a regular basis for at least one year; dancing Balboa to fast tempos is easy for you. You have been experimenting with lots of fancy moves and have worked with syncopations and styling. This is not your first international Balboa workshop.
Advanced
You have been social dancing Balboa a lot for at least two years, you have mastered most of the bal-moves out there and are eager to get into cutting
edge complex movement patterns, refine you technique and work on your individual expression and creativity.
Auditions
Everyone who wants to be in the Advanced or Intermediate-Advanced levels needs to participate in the auditions.
If you want to be in the Intermediate level, there is no need to do the auditions unless you think you have a chance of getting "bumped up" one level.
The teachers will determine which skill/experience group is most suitable for you during the auditions.
Please respect the teacher's decisions should you get into a lower level than you wished for.
If you are not content with your placement, you can complain after(!) having taken the first class and we will see what we can do.
If you are in the Master Track you obviously don't have to do any auditions.
